Graduation ceremonies for six year olds....

My youngest, Tory, graduated yesterday. Is she a child prodigy, you may ask? A midget? Small for her age?

Noooooo...she graduated from kindergarten! If any of you out there have children, you have, or will have to sit, sardined in with the other parents/grandparents, ooohing and aaahing at the cute songs they sing, and clapping loudly when they call your child's name to walk across the stage for their completion certificate.

All I can say at this point, is thank God that she is the youngest (knock on wood) and that I don't have to go through even one more of these!

Of course, I still have many other mile markers with my kids...
another kindergarten graduation is thankfully checked off and no longer on that list.

I never "got" the "graduation from kindergarten" thing. My school has 8th grade "promotion," which I'm okay with, as long as the parents plan it and carry it out and don't expect us teachers to do it. I never had such pomp and circumstance when I moved on to high school, and I don't feel cheated as a result. Do you?

I'm not sure whether this stuff is part of the never-ending drive to make all kids feel "successful" and to build their "self-esteem", or whether it's another Hallmark-driven occasion for cards, flowers, etc.

If we're not careful they'll be organizing graduation ceremonies from the womb, and presenting newborns with certificates celebrating their first 9 months' study...

The funniest thing about "graduation" is that school isn't even out yet!

With all of the people crammed in there (so we were just as guilty as the rest, having myself, husband, and both grandmas in attendance), you would have thought it was a bit more important!

Well, the kids had fun, Tory got to wear a dress from a wedding she was a flower girl in (wow...it's been worn TWICE now), and I don't have to do this again...unlike all those YOUNGER mom's who were there carting strollers, screaming babies, and sticky toddlers.

I never got the kindergarten graduation-- I think it's for the parents more than the kids, but then most parents think it's a big much, too.

I never had one, and don't wish I did, but my sister did, and she is only 6 years younger than me. So something changed in that time frame-- who knows what?

Congratulations, though lol

What do the kids think of it? "I've graduated, I'm a capable human being, time to get a job and enter the real world?" I never had a kindergarten graduation, most likely because four kids in my class failed, and it wouldn't be fair for them to not attend the ceremony.

Too funny! She looks adorable. I might have you beat - Milan is graduating from PRE-K, yes PRE-K, on Wednesday. Oh, it gets better, she'll be wearing a cap and gown that I had to pay for... ha!

I still cry at my kids' Kindergarten graduations. I can't help it! I'll be a mess when they graduate high school and (God willing) college!

My mom calls these "Hallmark Events" (as in Hallmark cards.) She thinks it's all a big scam to increase the demand for greeting cards...have you ever seen some of the things they have cards for? "Congratulations on Passing Your Math Test"; "Sorry To Hear Your Dog Is Gay" and things like that. I think my mom is on to something.

Graduation with flowers and everything. Ah, life is good. They grow fast after that.
